Job Description
The primary function of this position is to provide support to the Physical Therapist position, assistingwith management of patient physical activities, and providing patient treatments as directed. Helps Physical Therapist in assessing and understanding psychological needs and concerns of the patient. Understands any precautions, indications, and/or contraindications of patient’s treatment plan, suggesting any changes that might be helpful or needed, after consulting with PT. Documents patient and/or treatment information in patient’s electronic chart accurately. Notices any symptom changes in patients, reporting factually and timely to PT. Administers therapeutic exercises and activities based on patient’s treatment diagnosis. Administers physical agents/modalities to patient including heat, cold, ultrasounds, electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, paraffin, and biofeedback. Perform all necessary reports including Progress Reports on each patient. Perform necessary Functional Outcome measures on each patient. Performs manual therapy and assists patients with manual exercises. Administers mechanical traction to patients as needed. Performs any routine measurements regarding Range of Motion and or strength testing. Motivates patients to help them achieve highest level of function and ability. Communicates about patient’s status to other healthcare professionals as needed. Educates patients as to any restrictions they may have in their treatment plan. Instructs patients on any home exercise programs or treatments that may need continued. Assists in training of hospital personnel on proper body mechanics and lifting techniques, transfer training, and gait belt training as needed. Remains current on Physical Therapy changes to the field, obtaining further training to increase knowledge and to maintain current licensure. Education/Experience Requirements: Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must have graduated from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program and be licensed with The Missouri State Board of Healing Arts. Must maintain current BLS accreditation according to BCMH policy and procedures. Should possess age competency communication skills in order to deal effectively with all age groups. Personal Characteristic Requirements: Should possess the ability to deal tactfully and work harmoniously with co-workers, patients, visitors, and the general public. Should also possess excellent verbal and written communication, good phone and interpersonal skills. Must be dependable and independent worker with good problem solving skills. Should also work well in a team atmosphere, assisting co-workers as needed. Must have customer service skills of patience, tactfulness, and friendliness when dealing with others.
